Sheila Wyatt the hr geek
The hrgeek4u story
I spent 25 years in Corporate America in Human Resources management, working for Fortune 100 (Bank of America, AT&T Wireless, Microsoft) and mid-sized companies. I had the opportunity to work for and with some great and not-so-great managers and employees. As a result, when I left the corporate world behind I had some pretty strong opinions about what it takes to create a great work environment, one where people enjoy coming to work and doing their best every day.
Since leaving Corporate America, I have worked with small businesses in various capacities. I have done leadership coaching, team building, and establishment of Human Resources practices and guidelines. This is what I love doing; working with businesses that are small enough to not have their own Human Resources Department or designated hr person.
Why hrgeek4u?
About a year ago, I asked several small business owners if they would ever consider purchasing and downloading Human Resources tools via the web, rather than always bringing in a “live” consultant, which can be costly. The feedback was unanimous: What I heard was “heck yeah, I would,” if it provided everything that was necessary to get the job done and it was easy-to-understand. What I also heard was a desire to share best practices amongst businesses. I know, from conversations, that quite a few of you are already utilizing some creative techniques that are worth sharing with other business owners. So why reinvent the wheel?
Acting on the valuable feedback I received, I came up with the idea to have a website that would be useful to the small business owner, one that was diverse in its offerings. So, with that, I began developing what I call “HR-In-A-Box,” or an HR Toolkit, which could provide Human Resources tools and resources for such areas as “how to interview and hire employees;” how to set up personnel files;” “how to hire independent contractors,” etc.
Besides offering Human Resources products, and writing a blog covering Human Resources-related topics, I want the HRGeek4u website to be a place for sharing. I would love to hear what’s on your mind, and it’s a great way for all of us to grow by listening and learning from others. Because I am committed to helping you, I encourage you to ask questions, make comments, and share best practices.
What makes hrgeek4u unique?
First of all , let me share with you a little bit of my own philosophy about Human Resources, or “people management.” I believe in:
But enough about what I believe. I share those beliefs with you so that you know a little more about me and what I am passionate about. Which ties into what I want this website to do and what’s unique about it.
I aim to provide you, the small business owner, with content that:

Hi Sheila,
I came accross your website while doing research for a speech in college titled:”Putting Humanity Back In Human Resources” and noticed we shared the same thought for a title, do you mind if I use the title in my speech? I checked out your site, btw, and LOVE IT!
Keep writing and keep smiling,
Ari
Hi Sheila,
I was attracted to your site because of the article “have a meeting in small business”. I love the guide lines you gave.
But in this ‘about’ page, you mentioned “HR-In-A-Box,” or an HR Toolkit. Since I am the sales manager for our time clock software tool kit http://www.timeclockfree.com, I guess you provide only HR consultant or something else?
Andy
Hello Sheila,
I am very impressed by your courage and confidence to explore career options and your site is very interesting and helpful.
I have made a commitment to begin a job search for a couple of reasons and wonder if you can give me some feedback – I could share my resume with you or we could chat by phone.
Regards,
Maureen Ancona
